Title: Mom, the Toilet's Clogged
Author: Lauri Berkenkamp & Charles Woglum, Illustrator
Publisher and/or Distributor:   Nomad Press
Publishing Date:   04/2002
Pages: 82
Price: $11.95
ISBN: 0-9659258-4-6
Reviewer: Bob Spear
Rating:  5

Mom, the Toilet's Clogged: Kid Disasters and How to Fix Them is an excellent how-to book much in the style of Heloise but funnier. As an experienced parent of four, I can vouch for many of the tips and yet still learned a lot. The book is well organized into four sections: Body related predicaments Plumbing and appliance disasters Interior household problems Outside house problems

The author recommends common sense solutions to nasty problems such as gum in the hair (use peanut butter), tongue frozen to metal playground pole (use either salt or warm water), and so on. We rate this book a high five hearts for its usefulness and appeal to a major segment of the population-frustrated moms and dads.

Title: What's Happening to Home
Author: Maggie Jackson
Publisher and/or Distributor:   Sorin Books
Pages: 190
Price: $19.95
ISBN: 1-893732-40-1
Reviewer: Kate Fox
Rating:  4

What's Happening to Home? asks a timely question for people changing from the 20th Century, an age that started with horse and buggies, to the 21st Century, which started with cell phones and a personal computer in practically every home.

As a former journalist, Ms. Jackson writes cleanly, with style, uses excellent descriptions, and did extensive research to cover her topic. Because her research covers the spectrum from MIT graduate students to young businessmen living in a commune loft in New York City, the book is interesting and educational for those of us who are not quite as up-to-date on how the latest technologies may affect our home life. We give this book a four hearts rating.
